issue 009
After a short hiatus, we come back with another edition of the hinter planet. Our hands were full opening new spaces and working on new partnerships for the new year. In this issue, we explore the new spaces and our obsession with Maison de Soma (the best food experience we've found in a long time in Quebec). We cover the power of music and how artists can help our planet with the latest release of the hinter.live project, and we wrap this issue with reflections on learning how to love the imperfect.
new spaces:
Throughout the years, our selection process for creating spaces has been meticulous, emphasizing the unique meaning behind each project. With the launch of the new hinter spaces—The shelter and hideout x in December, and the eagerly anticipated hinterhaven on the horizon—we've poured immense thought and care into curating each space. These additions offer a fresh take on architectural modernism, cleverly infused with elements of nostalgia to create a rich, layered experience.
We’ve always had a passion for supporting emerging talent and filling up our spaces with their innovative works. This collaboration not only showcases their creative genius but also reinforces our commitment to nurturing the next generation of talent. We have a serious crush on minimalist nordic design pieces, particularly dating a back to a few decades ago; a reverence for timeless design and a commitment to sustainability.
To achieve this, we have chosen to furnish the hideout and shelter with a curated selection of vintage pieces from the '60s to the late '80s in partnership with le centerpiece. These pieces are storytellers, each carrying the essence of an era and the hands that crafted them. By integrating these timeless designs, we aim to forge spaces that are not only visually distinct and unique but also imbued with soul, bridging past and present.
hinter.live latest release.
It all began with a conversation between two childhood friends, a night that ignited discussions about collaboration, about crafting music, and leveraging its power to contribute to our planet. It's been about three years since the hinter.live project took flight. At its heart, music producer, Steven Dagenais brought together musicians and creators to forge hinter.live. Throughout the project's journey, 14 music videos have been produced and 8000 trees have been planted.
Experience hinter.live's latest unveiling, where Steven (aka Stich), personally orchestrates a mesmerizing winter session on a frozen lake. Listening to it carefully, we promise it will inspire you.
maison de soma: a little on the future of restaurants, creating experiences, and sustainability.
At the heart of our philosophy lies the belief that immersive experiences, blending nature and design, are transformative. That's why we're thrilled to introduce Maison de Soma, a culinary haven situated within a tranquil farm just a stone's throw away from our spaces.
Tremblant boasts many treasures, but one thing it has been missing is an epic culinary adventure. Maison de Soma isn't just our personal favorite; we boldly declare it one of the top restaurants in Quebec. And for good reason.
This hidden gem, located less than 15 minutes from our spaces, shares our deep-seated values of sustainability, love for nature, and dedication to a cleaner future.
Maison de Soma grows a significant portion of the ingredients used. But beyond that, they operate a kitchen that's like a lab—a place where experimentation and creativity flourish. It's fascinating and inspiring to see a restaurant truly explore the art of cooking. At Soma, they're constantly experimenting, creating new flavours. When you taste something at Soma, you immediately recognize its origin. It's like recognizing your favorite whiskey, wine, or tea—the flavor has a distinct identity. Behind this identity are chefs who are like artists, continually refining their craft. And behind them are even more individuals exploring ideas rooted in permaculture. It's a refreshing approach that sets Soma apart.
We hold a profound admiration for not only restaurants but also for dreamers—those who dare to be different or strive to revolutionize the status quo. It's about crafting novel flavors, offering unique meal experiences, and catering to individuals intrigued by the future of food—how to make it more sustainable and fresh. If you ever find yourself in the Laurentians, a visit to Soma might just be worth your while.
kintsugi - on relearning how and what to love.
In our quest for the new, the latest, and the so-called "greatest," we often overlook the beauty and wisdom of aging—both in ourselves and the objects that surround us. Kintsugi, the Japanese art of golden repair, offers a refreshing perspective, teaching us to find beauty not in the unblemished, but in the imperfect and the mended.
This ancient practice, where breaks in pottery are not hidden but highlighted with gold, serves as a metaphor for life itself. It reminds us that our scars, whether physical, emotional, or spiritual, are not signs of weakness but of resilience and strength. They tell our stories, showcasing our capacity to heal and grow.
But kintsugi offers more than just a lesson in personal growth. It's a call to challenge the relentless pursuit of the new in favor of a deeper appreciation for the aged, the restored, and the timeless. In a world obsessed with the latest gadgets, fashions, and trends, kintsugi invites us to reconsider what truly matters. We have these conversations with architects and designers all the time; how do we create things that are built to age?
This month, let’s shift our focus from chasing the new to celebrating the beauty of aging in all its forms. Let's appreciate the well-worn paths, the repaired relationships, and the wisdom that comes with experience. Like a beautifully mended piece of pottery, there's unparalleled beauty in things that have lived and have stories to tell.
We invite you to join us in this reflection. Have you found beauty in something aged or repaired? Have you experienced the richness that comes from embracing imperfection? Share your kintsugi moments with us via email, comment, or DM on Instagram.
